We are inspired by other environmentally conscious sustainable players and we always strive to inspire our closest partners to make active conscious choices in their respective operations. If they want to become our suppliers, they must meet our requirements.

Paper and wood, plastic and other materials (not from animals).

We shall comply with applicable legislation and follow FSC ® ' ( FSC-C194659) in terms of requirements and intentions, and as far as possible ensure that the raw material does not come from illegal or socially unauthorized logging, key biotopes, forest areas where traditional or civil rights are violated, forests where high conservation values are threatened, genetically modified trees or natural forest that has been logged for the purpose of using the area for plantations or non-forest land use.

Hides and leather and other materials from animals

For all material that comes from animals, it is important to look at the entire chain from breeding, to animal husbandry and killing and slaughter.

Waste and recycling

We are constantly working to eliminate unnecessary waste and waste, whether it is raw materials in the kitchen, firewood for the campfire, rope for building shelters, time, packaging or office supplies. If material surpluses arise in our operations, we try to first make use of the material ourselves and secondly recycle the material via established recycling stations.

Research and reviews of the leather industry

Reviews of the leather industry have been conducted by, among others, the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and Fair Action, both of which work to disseminate information so that systems that harm people and the environment can be stopped and replaced with more sustainable alternatives. Here are some important facts that can be read in their articles and reports:

  • Tanning is part of the process where animal hides are turned into leather. Despite the fact that there are environmentally and health-friendly alternatives - so-called natural tanning - 90 percent of all leather in the world is produced using the heavy metal chromium. If chromium is handled incorrectly, there is a great risk that it will become carcinogenic, allergenic and dangerous to the environment.
  • Formaldehyde is a substance used in tanning and dyeing leather. Formaldehyde is a carcinogen, allergy and asthma trigger.
  • Many people who work in tanneries and factories handle dangerous chemicals without protective equipment. Lung cancer is more common among tannery workers than in the general population.
  • Since chrome tanning is difficult to comply with European environmental legislation, a large part of the tanning is located in countries such as India and Bangladesh where both labor costs and environmental requirements are low. What is considered unacceptable here is simply moved to countries outside Europe's borders.

We are a small company and do not imagine that our choices have any major impact, but we still try to choose the right ones and investigate suppliers and purchases as much as possible to influence in the right direction - even if it is more about showing will than actually changing - according to the idea that we are doing our bit after all.

This means more concretely:

  • a life cycle approach in projects to promote sustainable development
  • preservation of biodiversity and production capacity minimal use and spread of substances that are not part of the natural cycle
  • to know and recommend the best materials for all stages of a tool or other product's life
  • to educate and stimulate employees in environmental issues to actively seek new knowledge
  • to conduct annual environmental audits where various activities in the office and on the construction site are examined
  • to live as we teach as much as possible
  • that employees must have sufficient knowledge and authority to comply with the environmental policy
